The faith of investors is at stake, and to earn their ideological respect, they are willing to do anything. As always the insane dogmatic Friedman-loving nutters whose diseased ideals infest the offices of most of the worlds economic consultants, start rambling nonsense about how all economic trouble are the result of political interference in the economy.
Which brings us back to Milton Friedman. When politicians decide to rule economic and monetary issues, the results are usually catastrophic.
There is nothing economic that is not also political. Economics is politics. This however, cannot be debated with those insane Austrian school religionists, dogmatic lunatics as they are, since they do not believe in statistics and proposing theories but just spout their retarded opinions as self-evident facts, and therefore insist that economy exists beyond the political, which is simply not true. This does, however, reflect a certain abominable trait in post-modern thought, the tendency of de-politicisation, the attempt of many streams of thought to claim that there is the political and the economic and the social, that these are separate spheres. They are all a part of the political. Everything is political.
The intelligent thing to do would of course be for the Greeks to leave from the poor policies of the ECB and the Eurozone, and re-establish their own currency, no longer bound by the insane requirements of the liberal obsession with inflation fighting and decision to ignore not only unemployment but also currency over-valuation; all for the purpose of fighting inflation, a useless aspiration insisted upon by the mentally ill liberals, the Austrians, the Chicago-school and other similarly ill-fated beasts. Then they would be free to devalue the currency, and to ignore the profanely stupid regulation prohibiting any budget deficit larger than 3% of GDP at the penalty of fines and other political restrictions, known in the liberal crowd as “austerity measures”.

The west, as always, assumes that a so called “oppressed minority” is always honest and sincere (apart from their own minorities), and seemingly incapable of doing anything wrong, as though they were not at all themselves involved in and responsible for a lot of violence in the recent riots. Instead, it’s presented as a question of “peaceful demonstrations” – regardless of the context. Rowing gangs of ethnic groups seeking to attack the other ethnic group on the streets, and yet, the fundamental rejection is simply that of the police action in itself (contexts be damned); and the police’s pacification then, an action that is fundamental to the very function of the police force: U.S, U.K, China or Iran, becomes vilified in one moment and praised in the next. As though the West does not try to handle violent riots themselves with the same violence – and for that matter, since when does the West really handle peaceful protests well, what with Kettling and suppression of protests in relation to WTO, G8 and G20 summits and various other events anyway?
Point is of course, that the West has no qualms about supporting certain movements they would not like to see at home when they are bothering the enemy – perhaps a bit of the old notion “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” – perhaps, funnily enough, originally derived from a Chinese proverb.

Lisbon Treaty?
Swedish parliament voted yes to ratify the Lisbon treaty after a debate. Not unexpected as the parliament is almost exclusively dominated by liberals and conservatives (though some of them would insist otherwise, but they are full of it). From Le Monde diplomatique after the Irish vote in July; relevant to this recent horrible – but entirely expected – news:
Imagine a man on trial for his life. The jury brings in a verdict of not guilty, so the judge immediately invites counsel for the prosecution to complete his closing speech, and then the accused is found guilty and sentenced to death. The Irish rejected the Lisbon Treaty on 12 June by a large majority. The treaty cannot come into force unless it is adopted by all 27 member states of the European Union, but most European leaders immediately announced that the ratification process would continue, yet promised to “respect the will” of the Irish people. Europe is used to attacks on the sovereign power of the people by their overlords. That is now its style, even if it likes to be seen as the kingdom of democracy on earth.
The Irish rejected a “simplified” treaty so big the prime minister, Brian Cowen, confessed he had not managed to read it cover to cover. A member of the European parliament said the Irish reminded him of a “people’s democracy”. Another remarked: “It’s no accident that dictators love a referendum” (1) and the president of the European parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, concluded: “The Irish no vote cannot be the last word” (2). So there will be a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and possibly a third. Voting in Dublin will continue until the result is a yes, because that is what the other states want, those states where the electorate has not been consulted at all.
Blame the Irish! Ungrateful, selfish, working-class militants, incapable of the generosity and unselfishness shown by their rulers. Except when they vote them in and give them a mandate to carry out “bold reforms”. No need for a second ballot then. The Irish are thoroughly European in that respect.
Something has gone wrong. The European style has been exported and sold on the strength of claims to peace, prosperity, justice and equality. It has produced charming posters with blue skies, loving mothers and happy babies; it has an army of journalists and artists campaigning for it; Europe is being created by symposiums and meetings. But nobody waves its flag. Its identity seems to be so insubstantial that all it can think of to put on its banknotes is the cost of living.
It talks about peace but prepares to join the US forces in dubious wars. It talks about progress but deregulates employment. It talks about culture but produces a television without frontiers directive that will result mainly in more advertising slots. It talks about ecology and safe food but lifts an 11-year ban on imports of US chickens washed in chlorine (3). It talks about freedom but adopts a shameful directive under which foreigners without the right papers may be held in detention centres for 18 months before being expelled, including minors and even unaccompanied minors.
Keeping Europe’s promise called for harmonisation at the highest level: freedom, employment law, progressive taxation, independence. Instead, the gains achieved by the most advanced states have been diminished in the name of unification and we are left with extended detention, free trade and Atlanticism. This has produced the beginnings of a social Europe, the Europe that says no. Noting that in Ireland a majority of women, people under 29, and workers firmly rejected the proposed text, a columnist in The Economist observed that: “A 19th-century-style electoral roll, restricted to older, male property-owners, would have produced a handsome yes for Lisbon” (4). But what kind of Europe can we hope to construct if we go back to the property qualification?

Even as an ex-doctor I find the concept of free healthcare a mistake when added to the free everything else that the lazy spineless underclasses aspire to. I packed up medicine largely as a result of having to deal with their minor moans and need for excuses.
Paying for health care concentrates the mind and the finances and makes peope very much more aware of the consequences of their failings. Cutting out the lager, reducing food intake, illegal drug bills, huge TVs, keeping themslves fit and so on, which are presently paid for by the taxpayer, would easily pay for the fairly small payments required for a family under 50.
The absence of free medical care requires a new mindset for most if the parameters are correctly assigned. Even in the USA there are measures to ensure that the VERY poor are not left to die at the roadside and those foolish enough not to have taken out insurance or saved for the eventuality will, quite rightly, pay for it with their possessions.
We clearly see how this had led the U.S. to have such low amounts of drug-abuse, obesity, irresponsible finance, etc, right?
McCain (fail) does not like subsidising passenger trains. But he sure do like subsidising farmers who vote republican and petroleum/car industry that give him plenty of campaign donations (read: corruption). At least liberals are consistent in their opposition to all forms of subsidies, you have to give them that.

No plans exist to extend the TTC outside Texas so far, though some cheapskate state governments wanting infrastructure to come without much cost and effort for them might look into expanding tollways. The “NAFTA SUPERHIGHWAY” is a collection of existing roadways of NATIONAL IMPORTANCE. What part do you not understand?
